I was just at Costco when something caught my eye—Post Malone Taste Twist OREO Cookies. Yep, you read that right. Posty and OREO teamed up to create a limited-edition cookie featuring a Golden OREO wafer on the bottom, a chocolate OREO wafer on top, and a swirled salted caramel & shortbread flavor creme in the middle.
And just like that, I was reminded of my AI Oreo Cookie Philosophy.
What’s the AI Oreo Cookie Philosophy?
AI isn’t magic—but it is a powerful tool to help teams tackle repetitive processes, streamline painful workflows, or add efficiency to tasks that require human intelligence. But just like an Oreo, AI is only as good as the layers you build around it.
Let me break it down for you:
- Bottom Wafer: The Team’s Initial Work. This is where your team kicks things off. It could be a polished draft, a rough idea, or a full-on mess. Maybe it’s a recurring process that needs streamlining, an email template that needs personalization, or a complex report that takes hours to compile. Whatever it is, this bottom wafer is the foundation—your team’s input before AI gets involved.
- The Creme: AI’s Contribution. Here’s where the AI magic happens. You take your initial work and feed it into an AI tool (I use ChatGPT—both the general version for broad questions and my customized version for internal processes and IP). Then, you let AI analyze, refine, and enhance your content.
Let me be clear: AI’s output is never the final answer. Just like Posty’s swirled creme in the Oreo, it’s meant to enhance the process (ahem – cookie), not replace the human touch.
- Top Wafer: The Human Review. This step is non-negotiable. Your team must review, refine, and fact-check the AI-generated content. Does it sound right? Is the tone correct? Are the details accurate? If something’s off, go back and tell AI what’s missing.
Here’s my tip: Treat AI like a clueless intern. Be explicit. Give clear instructions. And don’t be afraid to ask for multiple iterations.
- The Missing Step Most Teams Forget: Feedback Loop. Here’s where most teams drop the ball. Once you finalize the output, feed it back into your AI tool. Why? Because AI learns. By giving it the final, polished version, you train it to produce better results next time—saving you even more time and effort down the road.
An Example: This Very Blog Post
Curious how I used my AI Oreo Cookie method to write this? Here’s exactly what I did:
- Bottom Wafer: I wrote the original blog post, outlining my thoughts and examples.
- AI Creme: I fed it into my customized ChatGPT and asked it to “buff it up,” maintain my tone, fill in any gaps, and suggest improvements. (BTW, it said it loved this concept! 🙂 )
- Top Wafer: I reviewed the AI-generated content and made my own refinements.
- Feedback Loop: I thanked ChatGPT (hey, even interns need encouragement!) and pasted in the final version for future reference.
A Real-Life Example: Using AI to Bring Focus to a Team Discussion
Let me share a real-world example of the AI Oreo Cookie Philosophy in action:
I was on a Zoom call with a team trying to nail down the focus of an upcoming panel discussion they wanted me to facilitate. The conversation? All. Over. The. Place. Ideas were flying, people were talking over each other, and we were going in circles.
But instead of letting the discussion spiral, I took notes on key themes and, once the conversation started to get repetitive, I turned to my AI assistant—my customized ChatGPT for PowerfulPanels.
Here’s how the AI Oreo Cookie method played out:
- Bottom Wafer: The team threw out ideas, and I captured notes on what they were saying. It wasn’t structured, but it was a start.
- AI Creme: I fed all that information into ChatGPT and asked it to suggest three potential focus areas. Voila! ChatGPT distilled the discussion into three clear, structured topics.
- Top Wafer: The team reviewed the AI’s suggestions—and guess what? They unanimously agreed on the first one! It saved us so much time and frustration.
- Feedback Loop: We then continued using AI for the next steps—asking it to generate promotional copy and even suggest potential panelists. Once the team finalized the promo materials, I fed the finished version back into ChatGPT to improve future outputs.
Without AI, we might have spent another hour (at least) debating. Instead, it helped us cut through the noise, organize our thoughts, and move forward efficiently—without replacing the human decision-making process.
Some Common Tasks Where Your Team Can Use the AI Oreo Cookie Method
This method works for more than just blog writing. I see teams successfully using it for:
- Drafting emails
- Summarizing meeting notes
- Generating reports
- Brainstorming ideas
- Writing proposals
- Crafting training materials
- And so much more…
If your team isn’t leveraging AI yet, start small. Pick one recurring task and test out the AI Oreo Cookie method. With time, you’ll refine the process and find ways to work smarter, not harder.
But remember—always add that top wafer. AI should never be the final decision-maker. That’s your job.
Now, go forth and Oreo-fy your workflow!
