Ditch New Year’s Resolutions: Create an “Annual Theme”

Ditch New Year's Resolutions

Some people create New Year’s resolutions that rarely stick.  Instead, I create an “annual theme” to rally around.  It’s a mantra to use throughout the year to continually test whether I am moving in the right direction.  It’s the one thing that is most important to you.  It can be a goal, but I typically find one or two words that encapsulate all areas of your life.

For example, early on in my career, it was “World-Class” where I continually assessed if everything I was doing was indeed “World Class.”  Another year was “Simplify” because things just got a bit too complicated and I felt like I needed to simplify all aspects of my life!

This year, I escaped to Saint Martin for six days to create my annual theme along with my strategic plan.  This year, the theme is “Vitality” as I am looking at infusing more strength and energy into all that I do.

What’s your theme for 2024?
